Invitation: 2013 (2nd) Kaolin Grand Prix

  In order to promote international exchange and cooperation and to advance the prosperity and development of the world’s ceramic culture and art, the 2013 (2nd) China Kaolin Grand Prix for International Ceramic Art, with the approval of both the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China and the China National Light Industry Council and Jiangxi Provincial People’s Government, will be held from Oct.18 to Oct. 22 at Great China Museum. This prestigious Grand Prix is a major national and international event and recognizes the highest level of achievement in ceramic art throughout China and the world. And the organizing committee warmly welcomes the artists and experts from all over the world to participate in.

  1. Content:

  Three major categories are featured in the 2013 (2nd) China Kaolin Grand Prix for International Ceramic Art: modern ceramic art, traditional ceramics, and industrial ceramics. Prizes are awarded in each category.

  2. Awards:

  The 2013 (2nd) China Kaolin Grand Prix for International Ceramic Art awards are as follows: one Best-in-Show Prize; each one Gold Prize of modern ceramic art, traditional art ceramics and industrial ceramics; Each two Silver Prize of modern ceramic art, traditional art ceramics and industrial ceramics; Each three Bronze Prize of modern ceramic art, traditional art ceramics and industrial ceramics; and 200 Honorable Mention Award; and six special awards for Best Ceramic Styling, Best Ceramic Decoration, Best Ceramic Ideas, Best Ceramic Technique, Best Ceramic Material, and Best Exemplification of Ceramic Heritage. All awards are based upon the final decisions of the Jury Committee. All artists whose works enter the second round (i.e., pass the preliminary screening) will be granted a certificate and bonus. In US dollars, the total value for each major award is as follows (Pretax):

  Best-in-Show Award: $20,000

  Gold Award: $10,000

  Silver Award: $8,000

  Bronze Award: $5,000

  Special Award: $5,000

  Honorable Mention Award (three categories): $500

  3. Jury Committee: The Jury Committee consists of international renowned ceramic artists as well as experts and scholars in ceramics. (At least one-third of the Committee members come from countries other than China.) The criteria for the selection of Jury Committee members are determined by the sponsors, co-sponsors and organizers together. At the same time, to be a fair, open and justice art exhibition, rules of accreditation will be issued after establishing the Review Committee.

  4. Application Process:

  The Kaolin Grand Prix charges no entry fees. Participants are to submit images of their works by post or email and a completed application form by post, email, or fax. Those artists whose works are selected after the preliminary screening will be notified in a timely manner by the Organizing Committee of the contest. Thereafter, the selected artists should send their works to the Organizing Committee in Jingdezhen as soon as possible.

  Ceramic-producing regions and universities can apply for the contest via local governments or university organizers. Individuals can apply by requesting application forms from the Organizing Committee Office directly or by downloading application forms from the designated websites. In the preliminary screening, applying on the internet is available.

  5. Requirements:

  (1) For preliminary screening, participants should send images (300 DPI in JPG format) of their works by post or email and a completed application form by post, email, or fax to the Organizing Committee Office. Artists whose works pass the preliminary screening will be notified, but artists whose works do not pass the preliminary screening will not be notified nor will images of their works be returned.

  (2) Following notification of their success in passing the first screening, participants should then send their works to the Organizing Committee Office (see address below); shipping costs will be assumed by the participants, and the original works should confirm to the photos. According to the rules established by the Organizing Committee, participants whose works did not pass the preliminary screening round can nonetheless choose to donate their work to the Jingdezhen Ceramics Museum on a voluntary basis and receive a certificate for their donation by the Organizing Committee.

  (3) Application Process:

  The application deadline is June 30, 2013.

  (4)Multi-angle (front, back and side) images that accurately depict each work are required. The maximum dimension of each work should not exceed 150 cm in any dimension and 150 kg in weight. Participants should prepare a safe and appropriate packing container for their works; any damages incurred in transportation will be borne by the participants themselves.

  6. Instructions:

  (1) Any participant whose works pass the preliminary screening should pack their works carefully and ship them to the Organizing Committee. Participants sending works should determine the insured value of their works and pay insurance costs themselves.

  (2) All submitted works, including all award-winning works, will be archived at the Jingdezhen Ceramics Museum; no works will be returned to nor reclaimed by the artists. A certificate for collection will be issued by the Organizing Committee of the 2013(2nd)China Kaolin Grand Prix for International Ceramic Art.

  (3) The Organizing Committee reserves the right to photograph, videotape, publish, and publicize all submitted works.

  (4) Any works deemed to be copies will be denied entry to the Kaolin Grand Prix. Any legal obligations incurred will be enforced against the artist whose work is considered inauthentic.

  (5) Certificates and awards will be granted to artists of the nominated and award-winning works by the Organizing Committee of the 2013 (2nd) China Kaolin Grand Prix for International Ceramic Art.

  (6) All participants in the 2013 (2nd) China Kaolin Grand Prix for International Ceramic Art must observe the rules listed above.

  (7) All the matters not mentioned above, are explained by the 2013 (2nd) China Kaolin Grand Prix for International Ceramic Art.
